    New Year’s Eve – December/January
    17th Street

    McAllen has its own ball drop now, and revelers by the thousands flock to the 17th Street Entertainment District to bring in the New Year.

    Golden Age Olympics – March
    Multiple Locations

    Athletes who are at least a half-century young compete in more than 30 events – from swimming and tennis to bowling and horseshoes. The event seems to grow every year.

    Fourth of July – July
    Municipal Park

    The City’s Independence Day celebration features the “Concert in the Sky” – an outrageously good fireworks display that’s the biggest in South Texas.

    PalmFest International Folklife Celebration – October

    The City’s culture, cuisine and heritage take center stage during this community-wide celebration, usually held in October at the Convention Center. Live music, a fajita cook-off, games and a showcase of local artists are some of PalmFest’s features.

    Candlelight Posada – December
    Archer Park

    This McAllen Christmas tradition features a lighted parade through Downtown that ends in Archer Park, where holiday festivities include a community sing-along and a Nativity procession.

    Dias Festivos Marketplace – December
    McAllen Convention Center

    Holiday shopping gets kicked off every year with this annual marketplace hosted by The Junior League of McAllen. Best shopping in the Valley.

    Fiesta Marathon – December
    Multiple locations

    The path of McAllen’s marathon takes runners through historic parts of McAllen and Mission, through parks, along nature trails and the Rio Grande River. This is a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon.
